Bliss

Holding Spencer for the first time
I am in Bliss.  Baby holding, finger counting, skin feeling, cuddling, cozy, indescribably sweet smelling, spellbound bliss.  It was so amazing to meet Spencer today and check on his Mom.  She is doing great and is positively glowing and beaming with pride and happiness.  Dad is incredible too; they make a great team.  Congratulations sweet new family!

Love you all tremendously,

Arrival

Introducing Spencer
Mom and baby are now both doing fine.  We have all been on edge these past few days, trying to keep updated, see pictures, and be supportive.  I'm feeling like a very proud auntie.  Can't wait to see this little guy in person.

Bravery

My friend N modeling the Orchids for L's delivery room
The baby isn't here yet for my dear friend L.  She is working on hour 48 now.  Today the gang from work brainstormed how to send support.  We decided flowers and card with our well wishes might be a nice way to pretty up the delivery room and remind L that we are all thinking of her and hoping  & praying for a safe delivery for her and little S.  I got to have the honor of picking out flowers and discovered the most lovely shade of purply pink live orchids in a flower shop in Palo Alto.  After dinner and card signing I made my way over to the hospital.  I was able to deliver in person, give a hand squeeze, and let her know we are all love her, the baby, and her family.  She is so brave, there are some health complications for her, but she is powering through without pain medication.  My thoughts are with her, please send safe baby vibes into the Universe for L.

Update 12:54 AM - Baby S has arrived.  Mom and baby are doing okay.  Please keep sending out those safe baby vibes for quick recovery for both.  Thanks!

Early Arrival

Miss L and I, waiting for a kick
I just got the word that my dear friend L will have to be induced tomorrow.  I have had such joy in watching her and her husband M getting ready for their first baby to arrive.  They are ahead of schedule with the due date for April 28th.  I am hoping that they can find some calm tonight and that everything will run as smoothly as possible tomorrow.  There is so much unknown about the future, but I do know that M&L will be wonderful parents, and that baby S will be born into one of the most loving groups of family and friends on the planet.  Please cross your fingers for L, M, and baby S for a smooth arrival tomorrow.

100th Post

100 posts for Capella Summer.  Looking back over the blog is a great reminder of all the things I've done in the past couple of years, family events, the challenges, the joys, the life and friendships I've developed since moving up to the Bay Area, the family visits, travel, and plain old everyday things.

It's a nice little public space for me to keep track of things that happen, to share new things with others, to plot out goals and write down dreams.  Knowing that family reads it and strangers can find it helps me to really think about things before I write them down and put them out here, to ensure I'm really being true to my feelings and who I am.  I am hoping to keep going with it for many years to come.

I'll forgive myself for the dry posting periods where not much goes up, for losing the documentation of so many parts of my life, for not bringing the camera, for putting off writing it down.  I'll take it for what it is, an inconsistent memory booster, one with which I can look into the windows of my past and make out a few vibrant moments that may have faded away otherwise.  This place is really for me, a place I am happy to share, but one that is truly mine.  Thanks for checking in, for reading, for looking.

Highlights of the Week

Chris shows how he 'really feels' about starting Grad School,
I think that's a celebratory move there!
 1. Dropping Chris off at the train station for his first day of Grad School.  He was trying to keep his cool ... but I finally got him to show me how he really felt about it, see above.

2.  The first Giants pre-season game in AT&T park since they won the world series.  A good group of friends, cheap seats, new hats, cuddling under the blanket, and seeing the first home run fly over our heads... priceless.

Taking in the game at AT&T park
3.  Seeing Chris studying and being challenged at last, hearing him exclaim with glee when he 'gets it'.

4.  Spring cleaning - sparkly bathroom & kitchen, clean floors, clear windows, swept porch, and warm spring air flowing through the house.

5.  A great Friday night get together with friends in Palo Alto, reconnecting as a group.  Cocktails and snacks on an outdoor patio, perfect weather; celebrating friends getting promoted, a baby due at the end of the month, and Chris starting Grad School.  It's nice when you orchestrate something and it goes off to great success.

6.  A quiet weekend at home.
